It's easy to get lost in the day-to-day motions in any small business and forget to focus on the processes in place that get you through the day. Without an evaluation of how you and your staff get through each day you might not be aware of the little things that could be slowing down your workflow. With a few tweaks here and there, you might be able to shave valuable minutes off each patient visit to help you fit in more patients each day and bring in more revenue.

We just released an eBook, 10 Easy Ways to Restore Practice Efficiency, to help you navigate your workflow and find areas you might be able to become more efficient. Today, we'll take a look at a quick excerpt from the eBook and share with you one way you and your team could become more efficient.

Improve Eyecare Practice Efficiency with Fewer Phone Calls

How many minutes a day do you think your front desk staff spends
on the phone calling a lab to check on restoring eyecare practice efficiencythe status of an order, or confirming patient eligibility with an insurance company? These minutes spent on the phone could be better spend in other ways, like spending time face-to-face with patients in the office. Let's look at two different ways to decrease time spent on the phone.

Get Order Status and Tracking Online

When you start using online product ordering for spectacle lenses, contacts, and frames you will be able to view order status online as well. That means no more phone calls to check on the progress of an order. If a patient calls to check up on their order you can access the status without leaving them waiting. And, the information you see online will help you schedule order pick-ups.

Forget the Hassle of Calling for Eligibility

Calling payers to check on insurance eligibility can take anywhere between 3-5 minutes per patient. With a clearinghouse solution (or the right EHR software) this task can easily be done online, and you'll find that the electronic format provides more detail than you can get over the phone. Sometimes payers limit the amount of eligibility checks per call, which can mean multiple phone calls per day.
